    PEAX was born as multi stylistic cross-over ensemble by saxophonist Ties Mellema and percussionist/drummer Barry Jurjus. PEAX integrates all of the music that has resonated with Barry and Ties in their 20+ years career as classical and cross-over musicians.
    RESET is the result of several resets in different areas. Ties having had cancer in 2015 and 2017 decided it was time to finally start making music with no boundaries. Barry was looking for ways to integrate his love for jazz, pop and world music (especially African beats) into his playing. Inspiration comes from minimal music, funk, jazz, baroque, avant-garde, drum and bass. A mix that is truly never heard before.

Ties: “To me, this piece marks the Covid crisis. During the lockdown I retreated to my studio and began endless experimentation with electronics and sax. The first result of this solo experimentation can still be found online (for those interested in the genesis of this piece). It is the most abstract track on the album and here we are indebted to Squarepusher, Berio, Pärt, Bärtsch and others.”

Barry: “I listened to the first version of this work by Ties, and I was sold. This track had to be included on our album. I immediately heard my role in it; not a rhythmical part, but full of colour and atmospheric support, riding on and reacting to Ties’ tones.”
